Ian interacts with numerous industrial clients. Much of the work is concerned with the application and uptake from our research programme, "Smart moisture content measurement for better process control", supported by the New Zealand government. Ian is also active in other smaller consulting projects directly with industry.

Ian's previous research and development work which has been commercialised includes an in-energiser electric fence monitor (www.gallagher.co.nz), and Aquaflex, a soil moisture sensor and data logger (www.streatsahead.com), www.envirofactors.com). Both these technologies are protected by international patents and are sold throughout the world.

Current Projects & Activities

Ian's current research work includes time domain reflectometry imaging, a tomographic technique for measuring the moisture content distribution in a range of materials, and broadband dielectric spectroscopy which is being used to extract the moisture content and other properties of materials. These technologies are now being augmented by the development of very high speed pulse generation and measurement equipment to suit direct use by industry.
