Jo is the project manager for the Lincoln Technology biosensor research programme. She has been a member of the research team investigating biosensors for environmental applications since 1996. Her work includes the co-ordination of a major multi-disciplinary biosensor development project involving six New Zealand research organisations, funded by a NERF grant. This work is an expansion of a high profile biosensor research programme developed at Lincoln Technology which has been funded by the New Zealand Government for over ten years. Jo is also project manages a PSAF-funded project aimed at producing a pre-commercial prototype of a rapid BOD biosensor, MICREDOXTM, developed by the group.

Jo was awarded a PhD from the University of Canterbury (New Zealand) in 1989 in which she studied the molecular biology of plant viruses and crop resistance. She has six years post-doctoral experience including four years at the John Innes Institute, Norwich (United Kingdom) and two years at Lincoln University (New Zealand).
